REHABILITATION & RETURN TO WORK COURSE

This course is designed to trainees with the skills to management of injured workers in Queensland according to the Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003 QLD & Regulation 2014 QLD.

COURSE CONTENT

  • Bio-psychosocial impacts of an injury on a worker
  • Key communication tools
  • Access relevant worker’s compensation legislation
  • Entitlements and the nature of beneficial legislation
  • Basic injury management process including the return-to-work hierarchy
  • Roles and responsibilities of stakeholders, particularly the worker, employer, supervisor, insurer and treating medical practitioners
  • The health benefits of good work and how to support the worker when unable to return to the workplace
  • Apply a person-centered approach to return-to-work planning to support the individual needs and goals of a worker
  • Accurately record and store rehabilitation and return to work information in line with privacy procedures
  • Consult in the development of a suitable duties plan
  • Accurately translate information provided on work capacity certificate into a suitable duties plan
  • Principles of good work design and how this applies to identifying suitable duties
  • Interpret and understand medical information contained within a work capacity certificate
  • Dispute resolution processes within the workers’ compensation scheme
  • Respond to conflict and non-compliance with rehabilitation process in accordance with the legislation.

    ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

    There are no pre-requisites to this course however formal training in WHS is preferred.

    Trainees will require a level of literacy and numeracy to

    • Read and understand legislation
    • Reference and implement workplace procedures

    Computer skills to utilise internet searches

    ASSESSMENT

    Trainees will be assessed by short answer questions and case study/scenario problems.

    There may be some post course work to finalise the course assessment if it is not completed in class time. Trainees have six (6) weeks to return all assessment items to the RTO for marking.

    COMPETENCY

    This is an accredited training course. Upon successful completion of the course participants will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment in the following competency:

    • BSBWHS417 – Assist with managing WHS implications of return to work
