PROVIDE AN EMERGENCY FIRST AID RESPONSE IN AN EDUCATION AND CARE SETTING (HLTAID004)

This course includes HLTAID003 Provide first aid and HLTAID001 Provide CPR.
The course provides the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants, children and adults.

HLTAID004 is designed for educators and support staff working within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies.

This unit of competency has been approved by ACECQA and meets the requirements of “First Aid, Asthma & Anaphylaxis”.  http://www.acecqa.gov.au

COURSE CONTENTS

  • DRSABCD
  • Two (2) minutes of uninterrupted CPR
  • Procedures for dealing with major and minor injury and illness
  • Priorities of management in first aid when dealing with life threatening conditions
  • Responding to Asthmatic and Anaphylactic emergencies
  • Infection control principles and procedures
  • Chain of survival
  • Understanding and use of an Automated External Defibrillator ( AED)
  • Need for stress-management techniques and available support following an emergency situation, including the psychological impact on children
  • Procedures for dealing with major and minor injury and illness
  • Priorities of management in first aid when dealing with life threatening conditions
  • First aid requirements for services under the Education and Care Services National Law
  • Basic occupational health and safety requirements in the provision of first aid
  • Infection control principles and procedures
  • Chain of survival
  • Understanding of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and use on adult, child and infant
  • Basic anatomy and physiology relating to CPR and differences between infants, children and adults
  • Symptoms and triggers of Anaphylaxis & Asthma
  • Interpreting workplace policies and procedures
  • Conducted a verbal secondary survey

  • Respond to at least three simulated first aid scenarios

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Participants must be 14 years or older. There are no qualification pre-requisites for this course.

ASSESSMENT

Safetywave Trainers have a hands-on approach to training with progressive assessments throughout the course. Assessments undertaken may include: written/oral assessments, practical demonstrations, completion of case studies and scenarios.

COMPETENCY

On successful completion the participant will receive a certificate of statement of attainment:

  • HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • HLTAID002 Provide basic emergency life support
  • HLTAID003 Provide first aid
  • HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting

RECERTIFICATION

Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting and Provide first aid is to be renewed every 3 years. Provide CPR is renewed every 12 months as per Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines.

Our Childcare courses are available on our Public Courses, they are offered by Safetywave on the Sunshine Coast in Tewantin which is 5 minutes from Noosa Heads and  Nambour approximately 10 minutes from Maroochydore and close for our Sunshine Coast Hinterland customers.
